How do students socialize in an online high school?
Insight students are more than just classmates. They’re athletes, artists, volunteers, friends, and so much more. So even though Insight is an online school, it’s important that we offer field trips, dances (even a prom), and a graduation ceremony among many other in-person activities. It’s all in support of an authentic high school experience that both teaches and socializes.

The courses that students take provide many chances to interact with other students through discussion threads and ‘virtual classrooms’ where students are together at the same time communicating through two-way voice over IP, instant messaging, and application sharing.

Students have told us that they build great relationships with other students through the community-building opportunities we provide.

What about athletics and other extracurricular activities like band and drama?
Insight does not offer high school athletics as part of our program. Some students are able to participate on teams at local high schools, but this depends on individual state laws and school district policies. Wherever and whenever possible, we will facilitate a student’s participation at the student’s local school as allowed. Insight students can also participate in other school activities like band, drama, etc., at their home district if the district allows them to do so. Please visit your school for more information on athletics and extracurricular activities in your state.

Will school dances be held? A graduation ceremony?
Even though Insight is an online school, it’s only natural that we offer school clubs, field trips, dances (often a prom), and a graduation ceremony among many other in-person activities. It’s all in support of an authentic high school experience that both teaches and socializes. Activities vary by state. For more details, visit your school.
